ABOUT MARIA
My journey to becoming a holistic therapist began with therapeutic massage training. While recognising the healing power of touch, I soon realised the ‘quick fix’ offered by conventional massage was not enough. I wanted to be able to support my clients in a deeper way, addressing the whole person. I understood that re-establishing greater ease in the body could improve both physical and emotional wellbeing, so I chose to train in Structural Integration.
After more than 20 years developing my practice, Structural Integration remains at the heart of my work. It is a therapeutic technique of manipulating the body’s web of connective tissue to release stress patterns and restore the body’s natural alignment and effortless movement. I continue to be inspired by just how transformative Structural Integration is and how subtle adjustments can produce profound long term benefits.
My endless curiosity about how we express who we are through our bodies, and my desire to encourage people towards reaching their full potential, means that I am able to be flexible and adapt my skills and knowledge to suit each unique individual client. We work together to create a healing team, so that clients can work at a pace that they can sustain, improving their sense of wellbeing and deepening their understanding of their physical self.
Like many people, I have had my own experience of dealing with injuries, which has given me new insights into managing pain and healing. I bring my personal understanding of these issues to my work and I have had great success helping clients with their recovery after illness, surgery and injury.
My commitment to this valuable work has led me to explore and train in a range of other holistic therapies and exercise systems, from Manual Lymphatic Drainage to GYROKINESIS, which complement Structural Integration and my client’s journey towards greater biomechanical health. I engage in continuous professional development, attending workshops and conferences and keeping up to date with the latest research, constantly incorporating my new knowledge into my relaxing, detoxifying and regenerative work.
I have an interest in a range of alternative movement disciplines, including Kick Boxing, Weight Training, Archery, Tai Chi, Yoga, Feldenkrais, Cuban Salsa dance and Pilates. I am especially interested in spirals in the body and I aim to embody what I teach.
I work with a diverse range of people from mums-to-be, to executives in the corporate world, politicians, royalty, celebrated actors, musicians and sports personalities. My sessions are accessible to all age groups, levels of mobility and abilities.
The stress of 21st century living, managing painful injuries and habitual postural tensions all take their toll on your body, affecting your personal and professional life and your energy levels. Today more than ever, you can benefit from investing in your health with effective bodywork that restores your body’s natural healing potential, strength and natural graceful movement.
With a little help, from gentle touch and education, your body can be nudged into leaving behind old stresses and healing itself so that movement becomes effortless and pain free, and flexibility, strength and alignment are enhanced.
Do get in touch and we can have a chat about how we can work together. I look forward to hearing from you.
